Warren Shire Community Based Heritage Study

Last modified: August 26, 2009 - 1:03 PM

A community Based Heritage Study involves careful consideration of the cultural heritage significance of places or items of importance to the story of a Local Government Area (LGA).  A suitably qualified heritage professional works with the community to identify these places and assess their significance.

Council was successful in applying for funding from the NSW State Government, under the Local Government Heritage Management Program.  This program is run through the NSW Heritage Office.  Council has received $12,300 in $ or $ funding.  This gives a project budget of $24,600.  The funding is dependent on project completion within a 2 year timeframe.  The end result will be a detailed history of the Warren Local Government Area and a register containing structures of heritage significance.

Heritage is whatever we as a community consider important to save the future generations.  So now, a new kind of heritage study is making sure that decisions about heritage items begin with the very people who will benefit from them: THE COMMUNITY.
