Road Funding

There are three classifications of road in NSW – State Highway, Regional Roads, and Local Roads. Roads within Warren Shire Council classified as such are:

  • State Highway
    - Oxley Highway between Collie and Nevertire

  • Regional Roads
    - Marthaguy Road
    - Carinda Road
    - Collie - Trangie Road
    - Marra Road
    - Warren Road
    - Billybingbone Road

  • Local Roads
    - All other roads in Warren Shire

Authority responsible for carrying out maintenance and construction

  • State Highway – NSW Roads and Traffic Authority
  • Regional Roads – Warren Shire Council
  • Local Roads – Warren Shire Council

Authority responsible for funding maintenance and construction

  • State Highway – NSW Roads and Traffic Authority
  • Regional Roads – NSW Roads and Traffic Authority
  • Local Roads – Warren Shire Council

Council receives approximately $1M per year to maintain and reconstruct its 360kms of regional roads ($2,777/km).  To fund work on its local road network (928kms) Council receives approximately $640,000 per year from the Federal Government's "Financial Assistance Grants" and $407,000 from the Federal Government's "Roads to Recovery Program".  Council contributes a further $814,000 per year to make a total road construction and maintenance budget of around $1.86M (2,000/km).
