From the Mayor's Desk: August 2025
04 August 2025

It’s almost one year since our current Council came together and it feels like a good time to take stock of what we’ve achieved so far.
From the outset, we’ve worked as a team to strengthen services, improve infrastructure and build a stronger, more connected Shire. Roads have been a major focus and it’s encouraging to see the results of our flood recovery and rehabilitation work on the ground. Upgrades like the Dubbo Street and Oxley Highway roundabout, along with improvements to the Boothaguy Creek Bridge Approaches along the Oxley Highway (SH11), are making everyday travel safer and more reliable across the region.
We’re also continuing to strengthen our flood defences with the Warren Levee Rehabilitation Project well on track with rock deliveries underway and new diesel flood pumps on site and ready to use. We’re also actively negotiating with the Insurance Council of Australia to help ensure this vital investment leads to fairer outcomes for our community.
Over at Victoria Park, the new female-friendly amenities are now open and are already being enjoyed by local sporting clubs. It’s a small but important step towards more inclusive community spaces. We're also putting the finishing touches on the new dog pound for lost pets while they await reunion with their families.
I am especially proud of the young people in our Fresh Start traineeship program who are gaining valuable skills and making a real contribution to our region. We still have two trainee positions open so if you know someone looking to learn and work locally please encourage them to apply. It’s a great opportunity to start a meaningful career right here in Warren Shire.
Finally, I’d like to congratulate Jamie Chaffey, the new Federal Member for Parkes, on delivering his maiden speech in Parliament this week. It was a proud moment to attend alongside our General Manager and see regional voices like ours represented in Canberra.
There’s still plenty to look forward to in 2025. I’m excited to see what we can achieve together in the months ahead.
Greg Whiteley, Mayor
