After months of consistent rain and flooding caused progress delays and damage to local road networks, works on a number of affected roads across Warren Shire have since resumed, including Ellengerah Road and Old Warren Road.

Works were delayed on Ellengerah Road when it sustained flood damage during the construction process, however, the $1.7M project is now complete, following additional repairs. Progress on the $1.67M extension work on Old Warren Road was also hampered due to the wet weather, however, it is now expected to be completed by the end of March 2023.

Funded by the NSW Government’s Fixing Local Roads Rounds 2 and 3, the Australian Government’s Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program Phase 2, and a Council contribution, works on Ellengerah Road span over 4.35km.

Allowed by a cost saving on the original scope of works, Council obtained a variation to complete a 1.3km extension of the previous works on Old Warren Road, funded by the NSW Government’s Fixing Local Roads Program Round 3, and the Australian Government’s Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program Phases 2 and 3.

Both of these projects had the road pavement stabilised with an additive to make it stronger and more durable. A rubber bitumen was also used to seal the pavement, providing a longer lasting and more waterproof seal.

This provides multiple benefits to residents, including the development of all-weather access roads from Warren to the Shire boundary via Ellengerah Road, and from Warren to the end of the extended bitumen seal via Old Warren Road. The improved roads will also allow for enhanced road safety, quicker travel time, and reduced vehicle operation and road maintenance costs.
