Media Release: Warren Shire Council Powers Up Three New EV Stations Across the Region - Post Image

Warren Shire Council is proud to announce the completion and commissioning of three new electric vehicle (EV) charging stations, now fully operational across the Shire. This marks a major step forward in sustainable transport and regional connectivity.

The new 22kW chargers, installed by Streamline Energy Group Pty Ltd, are located at three key community hubs:

  • Windows on the Wetlands (WoW) Centre, beside the Visitor Information Centre, perfect for eco-conscious travellers exploring our region
  • Council Administration Centre, Dubbo Street, easy access for residents and day visitors in the town centre
  • Carter Oval Youth Sports Precinct Car Park, a convenient stop for sports fans and families during community events

The project was jointly funded by Warren Shire Council and the Australian Government’s Local Roads and Community Infrastructure (LRCI) Program. It reflects Council’s commitment to building smarter, future-focused infrastructure that benefits residents, visitors and local businesses alike.

Mayor Greg Whiteley said the new chargers show that regional communities like Warren Shire can lead the way with sustainable transport.

“By investing in EV infrastructure we’re looking after local residents and making it easier for visitors to stop, recharge and enjoy what our town has to offer,” Mayor Whiteley said.

“It’s good for tourism, good for local business and a sign we’re ready for the future.”

After commissioning and testing in September 2025, each site was fitted with final signage, safety bollards and dedicated EV parking. Now live for public use, the chargers can be easily found on the PlugShare and Charge@Large apps, making it simple for drivers to plan their journey through Warren and beyond.

Warren Shire Council General Manager Gary Woodman said the rollout was part of Council’s wider focus on sustainability and innovation.

“As electric vehicles become more common on Australian roads it’s important regional communities like ours are equipped to welcome and support that change,” Mr Woodman said.

“This project is a practical step in reducing emissions, encouraging cleaner travel and helping connect people and places across our region.”

Together with other local projects, the new chargers add to Council’s focus on building resilience across the region through practical, long-term investment.

“Every improvement like this helps make our community stronger and more connected,” Mayor Whiteley said.

“We’re proud to keep moving forward one step at a time.”
