Recycling at home is about to get easier.
This October, Council is introducing a new kerbside recycling service to eligible households and businesses across Warren, Collie and Nevertire.
Every eligible property will receive a new Council-owned yellow-lid recycling bin before the service begins.
With kerbside recycling available from home, it will be easier than ever to recycle more everyday items. Every item recycled correctly helps keep more waste out of landfill, giving recyclable materials another life and supporting a more sustainable future for Warren Shire.

Am I eligible?
The new kerbside recycling service is available to eligible properties within Council's existing kerbside garbage collection areas in Warren, Collie and Nevertire.
An eligible property is one that:
- pays Council rates
- has a dwelling or business on the property
- already receives Council's weekly general waste collection service.
Each eligible property will receive one Council-owned 240L yellow-lid recycling bin from Friday 11 September 2026, so you'll have plenty of time to get ready before the first fortnightly recycling collection begins on Wednesday 7 October 2026.
Vacant land without a dwelling or business isn't eligible for the kerbside recycling service and won't receive a yellow-lid recycling bin.

Can I order an additional recycling bin?
If your household or business regularly fills its recycling bin, you can apply for an additional Council-owned 240L yellow-lid recycling bin.
Additional bins are available for an annual charge of $150.

- fortnightly kerbside recycling collections

You'll also receive collection information before the service begins, so you're ready for your first collection in October.

Why is Council introducing kerbside recycling?
Residents told us they wanted recycling to be easier and closer to home. We listened.
The 2026 Recycling Services Survey found that more than 80% of respondents were already making an effort to recycle, with many travelling outside the Shire to access recycling facilities. More than 80% also said they would use a kerbside recycling service if it was available.
With kerbside recycling available, it will be easier than ever to recycle more everyday items, keep more waste out of landfill and is expected to divert around one-third of household waste from landfill, helping extend the life of the Ewenmar Waste Depot for our community.

Why is there an annual recycling charge?
The annual recycling charge funds the delivery of Warren Shire's new kerbside recycling service for eligible properties.
It covers everything needed to provide the service, including:
- one Council-owned 240L yellow-lid recycling bin
- fortnightly kerbside recycling collections
- recycling processing
- community education and practical resources to help residents recycle right from day one.
Council's annual rates and charges are issued from 1 July each year. While recycling collections begin on 7 October 2026, the annual charge also covers introducing the service, including bin delivery and preparing every household with the information they need to recycle with confidence from day one.
By helping everyone recycle correctly from the start, we can keep more recyclable materials out of landfill and help extend the life of the Ewenmar Waste Depot for our community.

How do I put my bin out for collection?
We recommend putting your yellow-lid recycling bin out the night before collection. If that's not possible, place it on the kerb before 6.00am on collection day.
To help make sure your bin is collected:
- position your bin with the wheels facing your property and the lid opening towards the road
- leave at least 50cm between your bin and other bins or obstacles
- make sure the lid can close completely.

My recycling bin is damaged or missing. What should I do?
If your Council-owned yellow-lid recycling bin is damaged or has gone missing, submit an online request as soon as possible so we can arrange a repair or replacement and get you back to recycling as soon as possible.

What if my recycling bin isn't collected?
If your yellow-lid recycling bin hasn't been collected, leave it on the kerb and submit an online request as soon as possible.
We'll investigate the issue and, where appropriate, arrange for our collection contractor to return and collect your bin.

When is my recycling collected?
Your yellow-lid recycling bin will be collected fortnightly from Wednesday 7 October 2026.
Your collection day will depend on where you live. A printed collection calendar will be delivered to every eligible property before the service begins. You can also download your Collection Calendar below.

Can I put green waste in my yellow-lid recycling bin?
No. Green waste doesn't belong in your yellow-lid recycling bin.
The yellow-lid recycling bin is only for accepted recyclable items. Green waste can contaminate recyclable materials and prevent them from being successfully recycled.

Can I recycle batteries?
Never bin a battery.
Batteries should never go in any kerbside bin — not your yellow-lid recycling bin or your general waste garbage bin.
Even small household batteries can cause fires in collection trucks and recycling facilities, putting people, equipment and the community at risk.
You can recycle household batteries free of charge at Warren Shire Library.

Can I recycle pizza boxes?
Yes — if they're clean.
If your pizza box is clean, it can go in your yellow-lid recycling bin.
If it's greasy or still has food scraps inside, place it in your general waste garbage bin instead.

Can I recycle plastic bags or soft plastics?
No. Keep soft plastics out of your yellow-lid recycling bin.
Plastic bags, bread bags, cling wrap, chip packets and other soft plastics don't belong in your yellow-lid recycling bin.
That means you should never bag your recyclables. Place them loose in your recycling bin so they can be sorted correctly.
Keeping soft plastics and plastic bags out helps recover more recyclable materials and keeps the recycling process running smoothly.

Do I need to rinse containers?
Yes. A quick rinse is all it takes.
Containers don't need to be spotless, but they should be empty and given a quick rinse before going into your yellow-lid recycling bin.
A quick rinse helps keep recyclable materials cleaner and gives them the best chance of being recycled.

I'm not sure if something can be recycled. What should I do?
If you're not sure, don't guess. Always Check Before You Chuck.

Should I remove the lids?
Yes please. Before placing bottles, jars and containers in your yellow-lid recycling bin, remove the lids.
This helps materials move through the recycling process more efficiently and improves sorting at the recycling facility.
